About Pegasus
Pegasus Softball, Inc. was formed in 1985. The organization was formed as a spin-off of LYA Softball, part of the Lionville Youth Association that has been serving Chester County, PA for over 30 years. Pegasus was formed to help players further their education by utilizing their softball skills; and that remains one of our primary objectives today. The founder and first President of Pegasus was Bill Gans. John Davidson was the first coach of the organization, and gave us 10 years behind the bench. The first Pegasus squad in 1985 was an 18U team, followed five years later by the first 16U team.
The first Pegasus player to sign with a college was Courtney Hankes McGovern. Today, many of our pitchers today take pitching lessons from Courtney, who still holds several NCAA collegiate records. There are currently 66 players in our Hall of Fame who moved onto Collegiate Softball careers…deep roots, long traditions.
The first team to attend an ASA National Championship was the 1993 16U Regional Champion team. That team was the first East Coast team to rank in the top 10 in the nation, coming in 9th. In 1994, the 18U team was Pennsylvania State Champions, giving them their first berth to ASA Nationals, while the 16’s attended their second National Championship. In 2000, Pegasus celebrated its 15th anniversary by sending both the 16U & 18U teams to Nationals in Illinois, and Texas.
In 2010, our 14U team was crowned PONY National Champions in Cary, NC. This was a significant achievement that very few organizations can claim. Many of our teams have won major tournaments throughout the East Coast, and regularly attend high profile college showcase tournaments across the United States. Pegasus holds a College Showcase Tournament each July at the Black Rock Fields in Oaks, PA which brings together some of the best teams and College Coaches in the area.
Our greatest achievement is our Hall of Fame. These are the players who have accepted athletic and/or academic scholarships to play softball in college. We have placed our alumnae in all three divisions at the college level and work year-round to help realize our players’ dreams.
